Pokémon is the easiest gift in the hobby right now, and also the easiest one to overpay for. New sets sell out, scalpers relist them at double, and parents end up paying way too much in December. Here's what I'd actually buy, and how to avoid the markups.

My one rule: don't pay big premiums for sealed product before launch week. Stores usually restock in the first few weeks after a set comes out. I don't list exact prices for most items, because they change daily this time of year.

1. A Delta Reign Elite Trainer Box

The big one this year. Delta Reign launches November 6, 2026, and the ETB comes with 9 packs, sleeves, dice and a full-art Kyogre promo. The official MSRP is $49.99. Preorder prices have been running about double that, so I'd wait for launch-week restocks if you can.

2. A booster bundle

Six packs and no extras. It's the cheapest way to give someone a real stack of packs to open on the holiday morning.

3. A 30th Celebration product

Pokémon turned 30 this year, and every 30th Celebration pack has a Pikachu rare in it. That's a nice guaranteed moment for a kid or a longtime fan.

4. A zip binder

For anyone who keeps their pulls in a shoebox. Side-loading pockets and a zipper keep cards safer if it gets tossed in a backpack.

5. Pokémon card sleeves and a deck box

If they play, not just collect, this is a must. Get standard-size sleeves and a deck box that holds a sleeved 60-card deck.

6. An ETB acrylic case

For the collector who keeps sealed boxes. These keep ETBs from getting dented and faded on a shelf.

7. A Build & Battle Box

Good for someone new to the game. It has a ready-to-play deck plus a few packs, so they can actually play out of the box.

8. A graded card of their favorite Pokémon

More personal than sealed product. A graded card of their favorite Pokémon in a slab looks great on a desk. Check sold listings first.

9. Magnetic holders for their best pulls

Every Pokémon collector has a few cards they want to show off. Magnetic one-touch holders are the cleanest way to do it.

10. A Pokémon plush

Not a card, I know. But for younger fans, a plush of their favorite Pokémon next to a couple of packs is hard to beat.

Watch out for fakes

Fake Pokémon products show up a lot around the holidays, especially on marketplaces. Buy sealed product from big retailers, the Pokémon Center or a local game store, and check my guide on how to spot fake Pokémon cards.
